The three exchanges
Binance, OKX, and Gate — the three I actually use every day. Signing up through the codes below gives you a fee discount. The marketing service fee comes out of the exchange's promo budget, so your fees stay the same or lower. Full mechanics on the Disclosure page.
Binance
The biggest by spot volume. Where I run my BTC and ETH perps. Liquidity is the moat — wicks are smaller, fills are faster, the API is the most reliable of the three.
- BTC/ETH perp depth
- VIP3+ perp maker = 0%
- API uptime & docs
- P2P fiat liquidity (CNY/USD/INR)
- US users restricted (use Binance.US, fewer products)
- New listings slower than Gate
- Copy trading less polished than OKX
Where I keep about 60% of trading capital. Main account for perps, BNB for fee discounts.

The all-rounder. Spot fees slightly below Binance at retail tier. Copy trading is the most mature of the three. Unified account model means spot collateral counts toward perp margin (efficient, but also higher contagion risk).
- Lowest retail-tier spot fees
- Best copy trading product
- Full options product line
- L2 chain support fast (Arb / OP / Base)
- Lower depth on perps vs Binance
- OKB liquidity thinner than BNB
- Withdrawal risk-control kicks in earlier
About 25% of my capital. Used for copy trading + occasional options. OKB held only for fee discount, not as an investment.

Where new coins land first. Gate lists altcoins six to twelve months earlier than Binance — that's the entire reason this exchange exists in my rotation. Base fees are higher; you pay for the early access in volume.
- Speed on new listings
- Long-tail altcoin selection
- Lowest VIP1 tier threshold
- Startup launchpad subscriptions
- Higher base fees (0.20% spot vs 0.10%)
- Thinner depth on majors
- Risk-control delays on large transfers
About 15% of my capital. Strictly for new listings and small altcoin bets. Mental model: this money can go to zero.

Just buying BTC / holding long: Binance. Fees aren't optimal but the security history is the best of the three, and you'll be in and out infrequently anyway.
Trading perps actively: Binance for majors (BTC / ETH / SOL), OKX for altcoin perps where the depth gap closes.
Copy trading: OKX. The screening UI lets you filter by drawdown, AUM, and trade frequency — much harder to fake than Binance's leaderboard.
New listings / altcoin hunting: Gate. The first six months of a coin's life on a major venue is usually a Gate-only window.
US-based: none of these are fully available — check Coinbase / Kraken / Binance.US for your jurisdiction. The SEC has taken action against multiple exchanges in 2023-2024 (Coinbase, Kraken, Binance) so the landscape keeps moving.
Why three, not one
The standard advice is "pick one exchange and stick with it." I don't follow it. Here's why:
- Risk isolation. FTX taught me. Splitting across three exchanges means a single failure costs me at most a third of my trading bag.
- Tool fit. Each exchange is best at something different. Forcing one exchange to cover all three use cases is like using a wrench as a screwdriver — possible, slower.
- Negotiating leverage. Having active accounts at all three lets me move volume when one of them does an aggressive promo or VIP push.
The cost is mental overhead — three logins, three sets of withdrawal addresses, three KYC sessions. For me that's a fair trade. For someone trading less than 5,000 USDT a month, it's probably overkill — start with one, add a second when you actually need it.
How the referral fee works
When you sign up using my code and trade, the exchange pays me a marketing service fee out of its own marketing budget. Your trading fee is the same or lower than signing up without a referral — most codes carry a built-in extra discount for the new user. I do not accept editorial influence from any exchange — the comparisons above are my actual usage view, not whichever exchange pays me the most.
